As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to rage on, cleaning has never been so important.

Mainly thought to be spread by droplets, from coughing for example, there is also evidence that the virus can be spread through contact with contaminated surfaces. In fact, itbelieved to stay in the air for up to three hours, up to four hours on copper, up to 24 hours on cardboard, and as long as two to three days on plastic and stainless steel!

Keeping clothes clean is one of the steps you can take to combat the corona threat, helping protect you and your family. But how can you make sure you’re doing so properly throughout the ongoing pandemic?

Highlighting the importance of proper disinfecting measures, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) has set out some guidelines for the best way to clean various materials during the current pandemic, including advice on how to wash textiles.

The EDCD guidelines on cleaning textiles are clearall textile-based items, (including clothing, towels, bed linens and curtains,) should either be washed on a high-temperature setting (90˚) with regular detergent, or on a lower setting with bleach or other, similar products which can effectively decontaminate the material

Both methods should certainly help to kill off the virus – but what about maintaining the quality of your clothes? Hot washes and bleach can both be notoriously harsh on clothing, with hot water causing certain colours to run or fade and shrinking various types of fabric including wool and lace. Similarly, bleach can be seriously damaging if not used properly, or applied to unsuitable materials.

Luckily, theres a solution. Kind on fabric but tough on germs, the ACE range of cleaning products gives a guaranteed clean that’s gentle on your wardrobe.
